Anglers Bring Fundraising Total to $4,587,500 in 29 Years

June 3, 2024
Island Lake— The 29th annual Kolar Toyota ALS Fishing Tournament raised over $287,000 – bringing the total raised to over $4.5 million to fund the fight against ALS! This event is one of the signature ALS fundraising events of Never Surrender, Inc, a non-profit based in Duluth, MN. 108 two-person teams fished on Island Lake, while 8 people fished in the virtual tournament. Fish stories were told, and laughter was shared; however, one thing remained top secret: the location of favorite fishing spots.

Anglers not only raised money for ALS, but they also competed for top prizes and, of course, the bragging rights for the longest fish in the net. Top finishers include first time walleye stringer champions, Tom Murphy of Superior and teammate Mike Jasper, of Duluth. Both have been participating for 15 and 13 years, respectively. Murphy and Jasper caught 115.0 inches of walleye (six walleye). The single longest walleye winners were a father - daughter team of Andy (Duluth, MN) and Allie (Superior, WI) Jonas. Our bass champions for catching the longest stringer were Kraig and Hayden Anderson of Superior. Their 5 bass totaled 95.75 inches. This father - son due also caught the longest single bass which was 20.25 inches long. New this year, due to the opening of muskellunge, was the musky division. This was won by new participant Johnston Westmoreland, of Moose Lake, with a 35-inch musky.

Anglers fundraise throughout the year in support of those who are living with ALS. The event’s silent and live auctions as well as crucial support from sponsors contribute to the event’s success.

Event organizers extend their gratitude to the community and surrounding areas. With the funds raised, Never Surrender Inc, will be able to continue to fund first-class ALS treatment trials, research and direct care support to individuals and families.

About the organization:

The Kolar Toyota ALS Fishing Tournament is one of the premiere events that raises money for Never Surrender Inc, the organization that donates the fundraising dollars to the medical community and individuals living with ALS. ALS is a progressive neuro-degenerative disease that affects the nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord. ALS

usually strikes people between the ages of 40 – 70, but it can strike anyone at any time. Although there is no cure or treatment yet, we are committed to helping these families in need. Together, we will Never Surrender to ALS.
