My Mom showed what we would later learn was her first sign of ALS in May of 2021. They told her it was a stroke and with PT she would be back to normal in a few months. This didn't happen. By January of 2022 her speech was getting more slured and I told her I didn't think she had, had a stroke. More testing was done and in April of 2022 my brother reccomended me bring my kids to see her.
To say I was shocked by how fast my Mother had aged. She was 72 and looked like my grandmother did right before she passed at the age of 93. She still did her best to show my kids so much love. At this point she couldn't speak, she had to write in a notebook and eatting was also a struggle. Hand feeding my mom was truthfully something I never thought I would have to do, but I am thankful I was able to.
In May of 2022 my Mom was officially diagnosed with ALS, in July of 2022 she could no longer move or breath on her own. On July 28, 2022, less then 2 months after being diagnosed with ALS my Mother took her last breath. This disease is horrible. It takes a person from being full of life, to nothing in a short time. We need to find better ways to diagnosis, treat and hopefully CURE this disease. With your help maybe we can get a little bit closer.
I will be doing this Tournament with Christy. Christy is the person who was there when I needed someone to NOT sugar coat the answers to the questions I had. She was the one who got on a plane and flew to meet me and drive 13hrs with me to say goodbye to my Mom, one of the hardest things I have ever done. Then when i asked if we could do this Fishing Tournament together she didn't question my lack of fishing skill (none) she said YES!
If I can help even just one person from ever having to go through what my Mom and family went through I will do all I can. Sorry this was so long. But once I started typing it all just came out. I am thankful for all of you and you being here.
Thank you for helping me reach my Kolar Toyota ALS Fishing Tournament fundraising goal! This is an exciting opportunity for us to work together to support those affected by Lou Gehrig's Disease and to spread awareness of the urgency to find treatments and a cure.
