Jim Langdon Riding for his Uncle Cheech
Please Support Me...
I will participate in the Black Woods Blizzard Tour, a 3-day snowmobile event to raise funds to support individuals living with ALS. I need your help to reach my personal fundraising goal. This is a great time for us to work together to support those living with ALS and to spread awareness of the urgency to find treatments and a cure.
Please consider sponsoring me. With your help, we will be able to make a difference in the lives of people affected by this disease.
Why I Am Riding...
This is my Aunt DJ and Uncle Cheech. Cheech was a butcher, hunter, muskie fisherman, wood cutter, card player, comedian, snowmobiler, UTV rider and so much more. I loved him dearly. In early 2021, he began to lose his balance and have trouble speaking. He was later diagnosed with ALS and started on a decline that robbed him of use of his legs, arms, hands and speech. It didn't, however, rob him of his spirit and he, with the help of DJ and his sons, fought to live as best he could until he passed away in September 2022.
The ALS Association and his local hospice provided resources that allowed him to live in his home throughout his journey. I am riding to raise money for two reasons: First, to find a cure for this horrible disease. Second, so others afflicted with ALS can continue to receive resources and services necessary for their care and comfort. I ask my friends and family to join me by making a donation in memory of Jim Grauvogl, my Uncle Cheech.

January 29, 2024 Update
Shark farts! The 2024 Black Woods Blizzard Tour snowmobile ride to fight ALS is cancelled due to lack of snow. Imagine that: Too little snow in the land of Paul Bunyan and Bob Dylan. And this was the year I hoped to spot Paul’s big blue ox Babe grazing on a forest of cedar trees and admire Dylan’s Girl from the North Country with her long hair blowin’ in the howling winds. Dagnabbit!
But the purpose of the Blizzard Tour is not to go on a snowmobile ride, but to raise money for ALS patient support and research. So I am redoubling my efforts to raise donations with an alternate activity on the days of the event (February 8-10) and ask for your help.
I will spend those days writing a fictional story featuring my Uncle Cheech who died of ALS in 2022. Each person who donates to this year’s Blizzard Tour on my behalf is asked to provide me the name of a person, place, thing or activity for the story. I will then incorporate everything submitted into a fictional piece with Uncle Cheech as the protagonist. Rather than go on a 500-mile snowmobile ride in search of Babe and the North Country Girl, my challenge will be to write a story featuring Cheech that makes sense of the dozens of nouns and verbs submitted by my generous donors.
So here’s my request. If you’ve already donated, send me an email with a noun or verb you want included in the story. If you haven’t donated, go to the link below to make your contribution and then send me an email with your person, place, thing or activity. Please donate and send your noun or verb to me by February 7. I will share my story on or about February 11.
Snow or no snow, please help me meet or exceed my personal goal to raise $6,000. And make me work hard to write an interesting story sending Uncle Cheech on a new adventure! Any amount is appreciated to beat this terrible disease and I’m grateful for your support. Thank you.
PS: Please pass this along to anyone who may want to participate in my fundraising project. Thanks!
