Welcome to Jack Williams' Personal Page
Hello Everyone,
I am riding again this year in the Black Woods Blizzard Tour to raise money to support the people who have the debilitating disease of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis often referred to as Lou Gehrig’s Disease. I began riding in 2011 so this is year number Eleven for me and I'm really hopeful you can again help me to reach my Black Woods Blizzard Tour fundraising goal of $10,000 to help people suffering with this disease. There is no minimum or maximum you can donate, so please share what you responsibly can afford. I have personally raised $67,000 in the past 10 years.
My first experience with this disease was after my ex-wife’s friend Susan died at age 38 after battling it for 7 years. My second experience with this disease was when my next door neighbor for the past 20 years, John Mamer, was diagnosed in November of 2006. John, an avid gardener, asked me to help him when he couldn’t lift his arms to hang his potted flowers. Eventually he lost the use of all his limbs and became a quadriplegic. John was a retired school teacher of 38 years who loved his gardens, especially his roses and lavender. Until his diagnosis he worked with the Minnesota Rose Society. He battled it to the end. John died in February of 2012. I now have even more motivation to fight for those who are surviving this devastating illness.
I also sell raffle tickets for a chance to win a Polaris Ranger as part of my fundraising. Last winter I was at a restaurant selling tickets and I had passed over a table of 8 women a couple times thinking they wouldn't want to win a Polaris Ranger. I decided to ask as I saw them getting ready to leave. I found out they were a family of sisters and cousins and one of their moms had passed away from ALS. They ended up purchasing $200 in raffle tickets to help support what they experienced as one of the most difficult times in their lives. I now ask everyone because I just don't know whose life has been affected by ALS.
Please consider sponsoring me.....
With your help, we will be able to make a difference in the lives of people affected by this disease. I encourage you to get your friends, family, neighbors and co-workers involved!
Why We Need Your Help...
Often referred to as Lou Gehrig's Disease, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a progressive, fatal neuromuscular disease that slowly robs the body of its ability to walk, speak, swallow and breathe. The life expectancy of a person with ALS averages 2 to 5 years from the time of diagnosis.
Every 90 minutes a person in this country is diagnosed with ALS and every 90 minutes another person will lose their battle against this disease. ALS occurs throughout the world with no racial, ethnic, or socioeconomic boundaries.
This crippling disease can strike anyone. Presently there is no known cause of the disease though support is bringing researchers closer to an answer. In the mean time it costs an average of $200,000 a year to provide the care people with ALS need. Help make a difference and donate today.
Your help is greatly appreciated
